Hello Citizens of Oakland:
My name is Courtney Ruby. I am a Certified Public Accountant and currently the Chief Financial Officer of East Bay Conservation Corps. I have dedicated my life to the service of others and ensuring that organizations manage their financial resources effectively.
I began my career with Deloitte & Touche as a public accountant. I then went on to take a key leadership role in the Democratic Party, as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the 1996 Democratic National Convention, and as the Deputy CFO of the Democratic National Committee. It was at this point that I began to focus my leadership abilities on creating change in the nonprofit arena. In 2001, I became the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Episcopal Charities Service Center, where I worked with several Bay Area nonprofits to create an environment of stability and success through structured change. As an active member of Oakland Rotary's Youth and Senior Community Service Committee I worked with Oakland's nonprofits to assess their needs and provide economic relief through grant awards.
In 2001 I joined the Budget Advisory Committee of Oakland and became vice chair in 2002. In this capacity, I worked for change in the committee structure. I actively pursued a process for the committee to prioritize the City's budget issues and then worked diligently with other committee members to bring value to the City and City Council through concrete recommendations.
In 2003 I went to Ghana, Africa to volunteer with children. It is my belief that we are here to be in service to one another that led me to Ghana. I strongly feel it is part of my life's mission to make a difference in the world, both locally and globally. I started a community lending library and an education fund for 30 children in Ghana.
When I accepted the offer to be the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Administration at the East Bay Conservation Corps (EBCC) I was thrilled. I felt I had an opportunity at EBCC to use my financial management expertise to impact the lives of East Bay youth who face challenges most people cannot even imagine, let alone overcome.
Today I am a candidate for Oakland City Auditor because I believe that Oakland deserves a model City Auditor's office committed to standards of professionalism and performance. I am deeply committed to the health and safety of our community, our financial stability and transparency, and most of all to bringing thoughtful change to our government.
Thank you for taking the time to view my website. I hope you feel you find it helpful. Please let us know if you have any questions, and if you like what you read--please share it with a friend. The importance of the City Auditor's Office needs to be known by every Oakland voter.
Committed to serving you and Oakland with the utmost integrity,
Courtney Ruby
